How stubborn are you?
“They’re digging in the wrong place!”

Is it just me or does it seem like no one wants to admit they need help? And guys, I’m really pointing the finger at us. Why do we, as men, often struggle and quit before turning to someone to help us?

April 20, 2020 – Everyone is looking for something. Deep inside it is a constant search going on within our heart. We want answers. We want hope. We want meaning. We want validation. The list goes on. The search consumes us, but we have a major problem. We don’t want the answer to be outside of us and our abilities. We don’t want to depend on anyone or anything else. We search within ourselves. We allow our emotions to fill our lives with one temporary pleasure after another. We don’t need God. We are just fine on our own. Oh, we know this isn’t really working, but we’ll never admit it.

Listen, I am going to say this bluntly. You don’t have all the answers. You are not the source of all wisdom and strength. You are not made to function well alone. This is true for you. This is true for me. This is true for everyone. Looking inside yourself is more often than not, digging in the wrong place.

Don’t be so naive and self-confident. You’re not exempt. You could fall flat on your face as easily as anyone else. Forget about self-confidence; it’s useless. Cultivate God-confidence.

By the way, today’s devotional isn’t intended to get us down on ourselves or our situation. What I’m trying to say is let’s break free from our stubbornness and walk in humility. There is no need to prolong a problem or live in discomfort by not getting the help we need. God wants us to experience more, more healing, more relief, more goodness, more peace, more life. We need each other and we need God. That’s digging in the right place!
