Transformational Leadership

March 29, 2019 – It is not and never has been about me. God’s calling on my life isn’t about me. It’s about me being a vessel through which God works to reach those he wants to reach. It has always been about them. Anything worthwhile, new, and different takes a great amount of intentionality. When I make the shift from being a good leader to helping others become good leaders we will grow beyond the lid of my vision and abilities. This is what it means to live for something greater than yourself.

In a palace you find many kinds of containers and tableware for many different uses. Some are beautifully inlaid with gold or silver, but some are made of wood or earthenware; some of them are used for banquets and special occasions, and some for everyday use. But you, Timothy, must not see your life and ministry this way. Your life and ministry must not be disgraced, for you are to be a pure container of Christ and dedicated to the honorable purposes of your Master, prepared for every good work that he gives you to do.

Now go back and read it again and put your name there in the place of Timothy’s. Far too many leaders see the pinnacle of their leadership with themselves at the top. I want to encourage you to flip the pyramid upside-down. The greatest thing we can do as a leader is to pour our life of learning and experience into others who can then far exceed anything we have ever personally achieved. That was Jesus’ model of servant-leadership as he washed the disciples’ feet. In his own words he told them that through faith they would do even greater things than he. Son, set your sites on being a conduit, not the source, nor the benefactor, but the conduit through which God can impact the world.
