Thank You, C.S. Lewis

Around the throne were twenty-four thrones; and upon the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white garments, and golden crowns on their heads.
-Revelation 4:4 (NASB)

March 2, 2019 – Who are the 24 Elders mentioned in Revelation? There are many things that God has revealed to us and many more that he has not. I can honestly say that I am not at all troubled by this fact. I have hope and peace for all that is beyond what scripture has conveyed to us. An all-powerful God of amazing love is not bound by the restraints of my understanding.

I have said on multiple occasions that I am forever grateful to C. S. Lewis for writing the Narnia stories. On one hand they are so much fun, and I have enjoyed sharing them with each of you over the years. On the other hand, God has used them in a tremendous way to open my heart and mind to how much more God is, than what he has revealed to us. He is literally limitless. He could have billions of creations that exist wholly apart from our universe. At one point in my life that idea might have threatened my beliefs altogether. Like many and without even knowing it, I shallowly held the belief that this planet and the creation of man was God’s crowning achievement. What a small God I had back then!

Don’t misunderstand me though, God loves us. We are special to him, so special that Jesus died in our place to make a way for us to be with God for all eternity. That’s pretty special, and yet, maybe not uniquely so, and that’s okay too. The main idea here is that an eternal God over all things is kind of mind-blowing. Then, for such a God to want to have a meaningful relationship with us, that’s beyond words. The bigger my mind fathoms him to be, the more I love him for loving me.
