Authentic

January 28, 2019 – I have reached a point in my life where I am no longer enamored by the outward appearance of holiness without the inward substance of authentic worship and biblical truth. Not that I have ever really been seduced by such a thing, but now, I find myself increasingly aware and concerned that we might be heading in the wrong direction.

From here on, worshiping the Father will not be a matter of the right place but with the right heart. For God is a Spirit, and he longs to have sincere worshipers who worship and adore him in the realm of the Spirit and in truth.
-John 4:23-24 (TPT)

Jesus was talking to the Samaritan woman at the well when he said these words, and she, was confused, because the “religion” of the day was all she knew.

Please, hear my heart as I say the following words. A worship gathering is a good thing, but it’s not everything. I totally get it. It’s our front door to welcome new people and share the gospel. It’s a bridge to invite others and build relationships. The problem arises when engagement stops there. Jesus gave us a mission to go and make disciples. An upbeat atmosphere and authentic worship will only ever be a beginning. As Paul told Timothy:

You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.
