Things Every King Needs
The metaphor of Kingship shows up in both song and story. Despite the fact that we live in a world that desperately wants to avoid responsibility, somewhere deep inside our hearts resonate with the truth that we have been created for more. Jesus is the King of kings, and we are destined to reign with him when all things are made new, and even now, he is calling us toward something greater.
Becoming a true King in the Kingdom of God is both a matter of being born into the Kingdom through faith in Jesus as well as an expedition through life experiences and earned recognition as a leader. If you want to be a good King, you must realize that God never intended for you to go it alone. There are specific people you need in your “fellowship,” to borrow from Tolkien. As a young man, you need Brothers. Men who will eventually reign as Kings alongside you. Together you share a common purpose and push one another to hone your knowledge and skills. Legolas, Gimli, Boromir, these are the men you are looking for as peers, and then you need a Wizard. Someone a little older, more experienced, and wiser who also shares your purpose. He will help you navigate the treachery of your enemy in this world. And then, you need some Hobbits. People you can love and fight for and pour your life into as they grow and mature. Though they are following you now, your goal is to send them out to become Kings in their own right. Look also at David in 1 & 2 Samuel. He had his mighty men, he had Nathan, and he passed on his legacy of faith to his sons and the entire nation of Israel.
I cannot overstate how important this is in life. Your fellowship will have a lasting impact on your growth and development as a leader. Remember, you attract who you are, so be diligent and pursue the life to which God is calling you. Don’t let anything or anyone hold you back.
