Survival Gear: Beauty
When we go hiking, we have a list of items that are always in our pack. We take water, a snack, the good ole, JIC (aka toilet paper), and a first aid kit that contains survival gear. We have rarely had to break into the survival gear, but we would never be caught without it. Too much is at stake. Why then, do we attempt to walk through life without survival gear for our soul?
I’m not talking simply about the Bible, prayer, and fellowship with other believers. Those things are essential, period. They are our water and compass and hiking boots. Survival gear is something we pull out for a different reason. Maybe we’re suffering from exhaustion, or a storm moves in, and we’re caught out in it. Survival gear is used to protect and restore and make it out of a situation alive. So, where does beauty fit in?

November 16, 2019 – What a wonderful time we had along the South Fork of the Teton river yesterday. My heart needed such a day. In truth, I cannot go so long without time spent in the beauty of God’s creation. All my problems were not fixed, but now there is joy where there was none.

There is healing power in beauty. Whether it’s a day in the mountains, listening to music, or visiting an art museum, beauty can be breathed in and drank deeply to restore something that has been lost. Most of the time we blow right by beauty every day without taking notice, then we find ourselves weary and overburdened. Learn to slow down and see the beauty God has placed along our path every day.
