Well, Frick
Me: I sure am glad I don’t worship idols the way they did back in the Old Testament.
God: I am glad for that, too, but why did you invent new ways to worship idols?

Idolatry comes so naturally to every one of us because we are confused by the goodness of God. He has filled this earth with amazingly wonderful things. He has given us creative minds and skillful hands. We are witnesses to the rising and setting sun, stormfronts moving across the plain, the beauty of the mountains and rivers and all of God’s creation. We are participants with one another in every kind of relationship. And what do we do? We worship everything that has been made rather than the One who made everything.
The worst part of all is that we are often oblivious to the fact that we have given our hearts over to idolatry. Love for this world and created things can come at us so subtly, but here’s the game changer. Worshiping God never happens unintentionally. We may find ourselves caught up in a moment or giving our time an energy to a person or activity without really thinking about it, but to worship God we must make a conscious effort. It is an intentional expression of devotion from our truest self. We can get lost enjoying all that is made, but we must be present as we enjoy the maker. Love is not an emotional response to something, it is a choice, and that choice is at the heart of worshiping the one, true God.

Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.
