Kingdom Come

Kingdom Come. Those two words are the cry of our hearts for things to be set right. They are a longing for a life free of pain and struggle and sin. They are a call from deep within our souls to be reunited with God as Adam and Eve experienced in Eden.

For all creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who his children really are. Against its will, all creation was subjected to God’s curse. But with eager hope, the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay. For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. And we believers also groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within us as a foretaste of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be released from sin and suffering. We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full rights as his adopted children, including the new bodies he has promised us.
-Romans 8:19-22 (NLT)

It is appropriate for this to be the longing of our hearts and that we pray for it daily. In this cry we acknowledge our need for God. The entirety of the Lord’s Prayer can be summed up as the abundance of God meeting us in the place of our every need. This is why we pray.

Life hurts sometimes. Kingdom come!
I feel lost and alone. Kingdom come!
I don’t know what to do. Kingdom come!
Everything seems out of control. Kingdom come!
I don’t know how I’m going to make it. Kingdome come!

Our heart’s cry connects us to the truth that this isn’t the way God created everything to be. Satan and sin have corrupted all aspects of life. This is good for us to know, and, as GI Joe taught us, knowing is half the battle! Because, make no mistake, this is a battle. When we pray, the words “Your Kingdom come” is our battle cry. God I need you. I know you’ve got this. Please help me here and now. Give me strength. Give me peace. Help me to rest, assured, in the midst of the daily chaos. Yes, Kingdom come!
