Wrestling

Growing up, I remember watching Mid-South Wrestling every weekend. Guys like The Junkyard Dog and the Von Erichs were almost heroes to me until… UNTIL I FOUND OUT IT WAS ALL FAKE! So not cool!

I wish I could say that the struggles we have with sin are just as fake as professional wrestling, but unfortunately that’s just not the case. This kind of wrestling is very real!

September 27, 2019 – Why do we, who know Christ, who have a relationship with him, and who know the conviction of sin, still desire to give ourselves over to it? This makes no sense to me, and at the same time, I know and feel the powerful draw of sin on my life. I suppose as Paul said, it is my flesh within me that sins, not my entire being, but that sure makes for a struggle that I don’t want to go on inside me. It is devastating to find yourself reeling after giving in. Sin leaves us torn inside, wrestling with where our allegiance truly lies. This is all such a distraction that stands in the way of experiencing God’s best.

Truly, deep within my true identity, I love to do what pleases God. But I discern another power operating in my humanity, waging a war against the moral principles of my conscience and bringing me into captivity as a prisoner to the “law” of sin—this unwelcome intruder in my humanity. What an agonizing situation I am in! So, who has the power to rescue this miserable man from the unwelcome intruder of sin and death? I give all my thanks to God, for his mighty power has finally provided a way out through our Lord Jesus, the Anointed One! So, if left to myself, the flesh is aligned with the law of sin, but now my renewed mind is fixed on and submitted to God’s righteous principles.
-Romans 7:22-25 (TPT)
