Old Wounds

Don’t you just hate it when life is going along just fine and then, BAM! you get blindsided by a memory that hits you right in that place that immediately knocks the air out of your lungs. Catching that next breath can be a struggle.

That’s what happened to Rick in Casablanca, as he delivers that famous line, “Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, she walks into mine.” In an instant his world is turned upside down. Honestly, it makes a great story for Hollywood, but when it’s me, and the memory brings up an old wound that I had long left behind but never really brought to Jesus for healing and closure… oof.

February 18, 2020 – Every battle leaves us wounded and sometimes the chaos is so intense, a quick bandage job feels like it’s all we have time for. That’s where our enemy will then focus his attention. He will hit us in the same spot repeatedly. Even worse, he’ll leave it alone for a while, maybe months or even years, then he’ll rip off the bandage and bring us back to that original, wounding moment all over again. Healing can’t be optional.

Son, you can’t let the pace of life keep you so busy and distracted that you aren’t able to process the toll that the daily things, disappointments, hurts, stresses, relational issues, etc. bring into your soul. Jesus said he came to heal the broken hearted and set the captives free. He wants you to know the peace of living a fully healed life, body, soul, and spirit, heart, mind, and will.

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
-1 Peter 2:24 (ESV)

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

-Matthew 11:28-30 (NASB)
