Psalm 34

Take a moment to read all of Psalm 34 today. Read it slowly. Learn from David what he believed about God. His testimony of God’s faithfulness stands as a reminder to us today. This is who God is. You can trust him. You, too, can experience His goodness just like David did—in the depths of your soul.

If you could read it in Hebrew, you would see that David wrote Psalm 34 as an acrostic poem with each verse or line beginning with a successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet. Something in that fact resonates with my spirit because of the amount of thought and creativity that would have to go into creating a poem in that way, but then the words… This Psalm speaks from a heart that knows, trusts, and walks intimately with his creator.

That’s it! That’s the key. God desires to walk intimately with you. He’s not asking you to be perfect. He simply wants you.

Let these truths speak of God’s goodness to all who seek him.

I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears. Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces.

In my desperation I prayed, and the Lord listened; he saved me from all my troubles. For the angel of the Lord is a guard; he surrounds and defends all who fear him.

Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!

Fear the Lord, you his godly people, for those who fear him will have all they need. Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the Lord will lack no good thing.

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.
