Quicksand
I heard a comedian say one time that quicksand is not nearly the problem in our daily lives that he expected it to be based on all the movies he watched as a kid. That's fair. Dealing with quicksand isn't all that common, OR IS IT?

February 12, 2020 - Yesterday was just one of those days. I slept late. My morning routine was all messed up. I didn't get to write in my journal. I had to clear snow and by the time I finally could catch my breath, it was time to head in to work. Once there, nothing went well. No matter what I did, I just felt like I was sinking deeper and deeper into quicksand. I came home, exhausted and feeling like I didn't accomplish anything I wanted to get done.

Maybe you've had days like this, too. We use many clichés to talk about it, a series of unfortunate events, a downward spiral, or the whole lemons-lemonade thing. I get it. The truth about quicksand is, it's easy to get into, but hard to get out of. So, here's the rest of the story from my journal entry...

Thankfully, some time was redeemed in the evening. I pulled out my guitar and began to worship. Brodie and Logan joined in and we had a lot of fun. My heart is full, restored. Today is a new day. May it be invested for your glory, Father.

New words to live by: When life gives you lemons while you’re sinking in quicksand, worship your way to solid ground. In those moments we must learn to stop, refocus our attention on God, and return joy to our hearts and minds. It's also very helpful to have a friend nearby when you find yourself in quicksand. We'll save that thought for tomorrow, but suffice it to say, alone feels good until it doesn't.

I love you, Lord, you are my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. I called on the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and he saved me from my enemies.
