Hidden Reality
That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

February 8, 2015 - Hidden reality is difficult to accept. Not believing in God per se. That's easy because there is honestly so much evidence of Him and His work all around me. I'm talking about other spiritual things like the principalities and powers and evil spirits that Paul wrote about in Ephesians. It's not hard to believe they exist so much as it is hard to know when I'm dealing with something spiritual or when I'm just having a tough day. The more I learn, the more I hesitate out of the fear of being wrong. Lord, help me to hear your voice and discern the truth.

God has grown us all up a bit since then in our understanding of spiritual things. One of the main things I have learned is that it's not so much a question of what is spiritual and what is not, but rather what is going on in the larger story. The truth is God is always at work. He also has an enemy who is always at work. What we call reality is happening on both a physical and spiritual realm simultaneously. If we miss that truth, we don’t have the full picture of all that is going on and we run the risk of misinterpreting much of what we see.
So, what do I suggest? Pray. Ask God to help you comprehend what you cannot see. And at the end of the day, fix your gaze on the things above--what you do know about God, his character and nature. Hold on to the truth of who he is, who he says that you are, and where this is all going in the end. That will sustain you through every hardship and give you eyes to see the good and the glory that is being forged in you every day.
