What's your focus?

October 12, 2019 – Life is too short and eternity too important to allow this world to distract or deflate my spirit through common trials.

What I focus on determines what impacts my life most.

If my eyes are on myself or my trials, I will allow depression, anxiety, envy, strife, discontent, or shame to weigh heavily upon me. If my eyes are on another person, I will be blown about by the wind and again become disillusioned, frustrated, or envious. If my eyes look to nature, I face unpredictability and the harshness of reality. There is only one way to escape the trap of multiplying my troubles. I must focus on God alone and seek him with all my being. He brings stability to chaos and melts away all selfishness. Real hope ushers in a certainty that my existence is a part of God’s larger story.

Peter, suddenly bold, said, “Master, if it’s really you, call me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come ahead.” Jumping out of the boat, Peter walked on the water to Jesus. But when he looked down at the waves churning beneath his feet, he lost his nerve and started to sink. He cried, “Master, save me!”
-Matthew 14:28-30 (MSG)

We give Peter a hard time because of the way he was a man of quick action, but who else walked on water with Jesus? Boldness is fueled by a heart-level confidence that what we gain is worth any amount of risk. Son, more than anything, the world needs you to risk jumping out of the boat. If you focus on Jesus, there is nothing to stop you. God is truly amazing, and even when your focus drifts to the wind and waves, He is always there to lift you up.
