You have to ask the right questions.

March 16, 2020 – This is an interesting time to say the least. A flu virus has effectively shut down schools and most churches along with any large gatherings of people. Businesses are trying to make the tough decisions as to whether or not they can continue to operate. Many are saying they are simply going to close shop and probably never reopen. Even sporting events are being canceled. In my lifetime, I can’t recall anything like this on such a global scale.

Thankfully, we don’t encounter a world-wide pandemic very often. However, over the course of our lives we are touched by difficulty, trauma, and tragedy many times. Whether facing a personal crisis or hearing about the latest news happening around the world it all takes a toll. This leaves most people shaking their heads and simply asking the question, “Why?”

The question comes from both our curiosity and our sense of justice that demands an answer. The problem is, the answer, if there is one available, doesn’t really help all that much. We need to learn to ask better questions like: How can I help? What is needed? Or if it’s something that you are going through, can you help me? Or maybe, God what are you up to in this situation? Where is your presence at work? What are you asking of me? How do you want me to grow or help?

Asking the right questions moves us from internal turmoil toward constructive action and a deeper faith. Asking the right questions allows us to see God’s healing, restoration, and redemption in situations that he did not cause, but shows up anyway. David knew him as:
